| Annie Leibovitz was born October 2, 1949 in Waterbury, Connecticut. She is most famous for her portraits of political figures, musicians and athletes, all of which are featured regularly in magazines, fashion, and advertising. She received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the San Francisco Art Institute in 1971. In 1969, she lived on a kibbutz in Israel and participated in an archaeological dig at the site of King Solomon's temple. From 1973 she was a freelance photographer and the chief photographer for Rolling Stone magazine, and in 1975, she served as a concert-tour photographer for The Rolling Stones band. Leibovitz made it so that takes her photos to emphasize some aspect of each subject's public persona, typically caught in the middle of a physical action. Annie was the third of six children and had a pretty impressive family line. Her mother was a modern dance instructor, while her father was a lieutenant colonel in the U.s Air Force. She took her first pictures while her family lived in the phillipines because her father was stationed there during the Vietnam War. She was very versatile, having many talents from music to archeology. |
This Photo taken by Leibovitz really intrigued me. The dramatic contrast between the blindingly white whites and the deep blacks just pull you in. She really captured the intensity in his face and eyes, and even though it's a very strange and random picture, it works. She did well at capturing Leonardo DiCaprio's serious demeanor. While capturing all of this in one photo, she managed to use at least two different camera settings like rule of thirds and aperture.
